What is early intervention and who is it for?
Early intervention supports children from birth to age 3 who have a developmental delay or a diagnosed condition. It includes services like speech, occupational, and physical therapy, plus special instruction and family coaching.
How much does early intervention cost?
For eligible children, EI services are provided at no cost to your family through the NYC Early Intervention Program. We also accept NY Medicaid and most insurance and verify your coverage for free.
How do I get my child evaluated?
You or your pediatrician can make a referral to the NYC Early Intervention Program. A multidisciplinary team then completes a free developmental evaluation to determine eligibility.
What is an IFSP?
An Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) is your child’s personalized EI plan. It sets goals, lists services, and centers on your family’s routines and priorities, and we review it regularly.
Where do early intervention services take place?
Most services happen at home, where your child is most comfortable. They can also take place in familiar community settings like daycare, or by telehealth, anywhere across Suffolk County, from Huntington to Brookhaven. George to Tottenville.
